Project 2
Moving on to the second assignment, we are required to design a Wellness Center PLUS within the Kepong Botanical Gardens which is bordering the suburban neighborhood of Taman Ehsan. Students are required to produce design narratives that respond to the environment and community as user group within the given context. Besides that, the projects calls to explore on environmental poetics of building enclosure’s through utilizing various complex typologies of spatial organizations and a variety of passive strategies for sustainable design. The outcome of the design should merge harmoniously with the site and provide the best of spatial
experiences in fostering a sense of community while incorporating the wellness element.
Project 2(a)
The first part of the project is carried out as an entire tutorial group where students are required to provide a masterplan design proposal that incorporates findings from precedent studies and site analysis from the site visit. The type of wellness activity, building site and target audience should be defined and discussed in each tutorial group as they come up with their final masterplan design proposal.
Project 2(b)
Moving on to part 2, students are tasked to individually design and craft architectural spaces that is arranged in a clustered typology with considerations on the wellness activity, environmental poetics in
relation to the basic natural context and existing built context and showcase an appropriate level of understanding of materiality and detailing of their building structure.
At the end of this assignment, I've learned to explore on the relationship of blurring boundaries between the internal space and external space to provide a more intimate relationship between human and nature. This project was also a good introduction for me to explore on community buildings and I enjoyed the idea of coming up with a masterplan design proposal for the community of Taman Ehsan which I find the experience beneficial as I step into the working industry in the future.
