ASSIGNMENT 1
The objective of the first assignment is to introduce the skills of interpretation, recording, organizing and the ability to explain various forms, shapes and lines of a certain object. The observation skills of a student and the capability to transfer a 3D object into a 2D drawing will be tested.
TASK AND PROGRESS
WEEK 1
Selection of Object
Students are required to look for an item/object which is approximately 15 x 15 x 15 cm big (around A4 size) and shall only have one axis of symmetry.
In this stage, I selected a pencil sharpener as well as an old camera. I took a video of both the objects an uploaded it onto the google sheets for approval from the module lecturer
WEEK 2
Drawing of Plan & Elevation 1
After approval, students are asked to proceed with the drawings and then show their progress during every week's tutorial session.
For week 2, I went and did the drawings for plan and elevation 1( front elevation) using 2B pencil and mechanical pencil. After obtaining feedbacks from the tutorial class I went and amend my drawings.
WEEK 3
Drawing of Elevation 2 & 3
Students are required to complete 3 elevations as a submission requirement.
For the following week, I completed my corrections on the previous drawings and as well as the other 2 elevations. I used a protractor and flexible ruler to draw the curve so I wouldn't repeat the same mistake of jagged lines when drawing curve.
WEEK 4
Drawing of Section and Title Block
Another task and requirement stated in the brief is to have one section drawing as well as a title block for all the 5 drawings.
Hence, for this week I progressed with completing the final drawing which is section and also included title block for all 5 drawings. I dismantled the camera and took a snapshot of the internal details to be included in the section drawing
In conclusion , the first project has introduced me to many knowledge of technical drawings in architecture. Although it was only drawings of a camera, I was able to grasp the idea of how technical drawings work in architecture. One thing that I wasn't used to at first was we weren't allowed to make repetitive lines to try perfect the shape but I think manage to get a hang of it afterwards.
